Shooters World is coming to The Villages.

Shooters World will bring a retail firearms store, shooting facility and training facility at the newly designated Powell Plaza at Powell Road and County Road 44A.

Plenty of Villagers are already familiar with Shooters World.

The Villages Straight Shooters club has been taking monthly bus trips to the Shooters World facility in Tampa. When Villagers started talking about residents’ enthusiasm for target shooting and personal protection, Shooters World General Manager Bruce Kitzis became interested in an opportunity here.

Floridians’ desire for personal safety and protection has resulted in strong growth for Shooters World which is also working on a new location in Orlando.

“People are more and more concerned about safety,” said Kitzis.

Women in particular are showing those concerns. Women are the fastest-growing demographic for the business. To meet that need, Shooters World offers classes tailored specifically for women.

A 60-year-old Village of St. Charles woman was arrested at her home Thursday night after allegedly threatening an 80-year-old man.

Jean Dorothy Kilroy

Jean Dorothy Kilroy

Jean Kilroy had been out with her granddaughter during the day and came home to her residence on Barnwell Place and began drinking, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

The 80-year-old said that Kilroy became belligerent and began screaming and cursing at him, telling him to get out of the house. He said she grabbed him by his right arm, scratching him in the process in order to get him out of the house. He also said she threw a cell phone which struck him in his head, just above his left eyebrow. He said she threatened to retrieve a knife from the kitchen and stab him.

When asked if the altercation was physical in anyway, Kilroy said, “No, absolutely not, I love this man.”

The arrest report said, “It should be noted the defendant appeared to be extremely intoxicated as she was unable to maintain her balance and constantly slurred her words. The defendant admitted to consuming two glasses of wine and a small bottle of Smirnoff vodka throughout the night.”

She was arrested on a charge of battery.

As she was being transported to the Sumter County Detention Center, she made a statement to the deputy driving the car.

“He is going to a nursing home when I get out of here,” Kilroy said, according to the report.

Kilroy was released from the Sumter County Detention Center at 12:05 p.m. Friday after posting $1,000 bond.

James Michael Haymaker, 66, was arrested on two felony counts of sexual assault shortly before 1 p.m. Friday at his home on Amish Path in the Village of Dunedin.

Haymaker is accused of having sex with the teen to whom he is related, but the exact relationship was unclear as the arrest report was heavily redacted due to the sensitive nature of the case.

Haymaker allegedly told the teen she could bring her boyfriend with her to The Villages the next summer if she allowed Haymaker, who is married, to have sex with her. She laid down on the bed and Haymaker used KY Jelly to prepare the girl for sex, according to the arrest report.

The report came into the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office from the SCAN Child Advocacy Center in Richmond, Va.

Haymaker was taken into custody and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center.

Seniors vs. Crime is warning Villagers that if you receive a call from a bubbly woman calling herself Kelly informing you that your entry has been chosen and you are the a winner of a new SUV, “you need to know you are not a winner.”

If you call back the number (800) 460-7122, you will end up a loser, according to Seniors vs. Crime.

“If nothing else, calling them back targets you as a potential scam victim and your name and number will be passed around like a military canteen on a hot day. Don’t fall for these scams. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is,” Seniors vs. Crime said in its advisory.

Stay one step ahead of the scammers by “liking” the Seniors vs. Crime Facebook page.

A Villager arrested on felony sexual assault charges Friday spent a little more than five hours behind bars before bonding out.

James Michael Haymaker, 66, of the Village of Hillsborough, was arrested at his home on Amish Path and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center at 1:20 p.m. He posted $50,000 bond and was released at 6:49 p.m.

Haymaker is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl who had been staying at his home during the summer of 2016.

There were two incidents which led to the two felony counts, according to an arrest report.

The first incident was interrupted when he heard the garage door being opened.

The second incident ended with Haymaker ejaculating inside of the girl by “accident,” according to an arrest report. Haymaker had dangled the possibility of the girl being allowed to have her boyfriend come down to The Villages the following summer as a means to persuade the girl to consent to sexual activity, the report said.
